Sundance 2010 Preview: HAPPYTHANKYOUMOREPLEASE

Official Synopsis: Six New Yorkers juggle love, friendship, and the keenly challenging specter of adulthood. Sam Wexler is a struggling writer who’s having a particularly bad day. When a young boy gets separated from his family on the subway, Sam makes the questionable decision to bring the child back to his apartment and thus begins a rewarding, yet complicated, friendship. Sam’s life revolves around his friends—Annie, whose self-image keeps her from commitment; Charlie and Mary Catherine, a couple whose possible move to Los Angeles tests their relationship; and Mississippi, a cabaret singer who catches Sam’s eye.

Written, directed, and starring Josh Radnor (CBS’s How I Met Your Mother), happythankyoumoreplease boasts a wryly funny script and engaging performances from its ensemble cast. With honesty and humor, Radnor captures a generational moment—young people on the cusp of truly growing up, struggling for connection, and hoping to define what it means to love and be loved.

This and that

I’m getting seriously behind on updates for this site and I apologize for that.  I do have tons of stuff that I will be adding this week assuming all goes well.  For now, I have a couple little items that have been emailed to me.

- Whowhatwear.com chose Kate as their girl of the month.  A cute article is included and they call Kate their “current fashion crush”.  Click here to read the whole thing.

- Rebecca emailed me with the video preview for tomorrow night’s new episode of Entourage and it looks like Kate’s appearances might finally be happening.  You can view the preview here and if the girl pouring coffee isn’t Kate, I’ll be very surprised.  Thank you Rebecca for the heads up.

- I also received an email from Stephen Lacant (the director of Kate’s movie Fireflies) with some excellent news.  The film has finally been released in the U.S.!  It’s available for download here and I will be posting more info and the photos he included in the email tomorrow.  Stephen also pointed out that the movie will be available via amazon.com soon.  Thank you very, very much for emailing me Stephen!

‘Iron Man 2′ role announced?

Kate’s profile on IMDb has been updated to show her role in the upcoming Iron Man 2 to be that of Bethany Cabe.  I can find no further confirmation of this and IMDb, while a wealth of information, is not always 100% accurate.  I will keep you all updated as I learn more.  Thank you April for the heads up on this little news tidbit!

‘The Open Road’ update

It looks like Kate’s movie The Open Road may finally get released.  I will of course keep you updated as I learn more.

Anchor Bay Films has acquired theatrical and DVD rights to Odd Lot Entertainment and Perfect Weekend’s The Open Road from executive producer Wim Wenders.

Michael Meredith wrote and directed the film starring Justin Timberlake as a young man who embarks on a road trip to visit his dying mother and persuades his father, a former professional athlete played by Jeff Bridges, to join him for the ride.

‘Peoples’ out on DVD

I received an email letting me know that one of Kate’s first movies Peoples has been released today on R1 DVD.  Thank you Manuel for the email.  If anyone can get screencaps of the movie, it would be greatly appreciated.

Official: Kate in ‘Entourage’ and ‘Peep World’

Just yesterday, I reported that Kate had been cast in Iron Man 2 and that in one of the sources they had her upcoming projects listed as Entourage and Peep World.  Well, it seems that source was correct.  According to Michael Ausiello, Kate has definitely signed on for a recurring role in Entourage.  And Lindsay randomly came upon a scene being filmed for Peep World and snagged a photo of Kate working.  Excellent news!

New projects!

Good news Kate fans!  Kate has apparantly signed on for Iron Man 2.

Kate Mara and Clark Gregg have joined Marvel’s Iron Man 2, being directed by Jon Favreau.  The details of Mara’s role are being kept under wraps. Gregg is returning as Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The same news article also reported this:

Mara has joined Michael C. Hall, Sarah Silverman and Rainn Wilson in the indie ensemble comedy Peep World. She also booked a recurring stint on HBO’s Entourage, where she plays a potential love interest to Kevin Connolly’s character.

I don’t know about you but I’m really excited about the Iron Man 2 news.  It will be nice to see Kate in another high profile movie.  Maybe she’ll finally get more recognition.

UK fans

For those in the UK, it looks like Kate’s movie Transsiberian has been released on DVD.

Extras include a making-of, interviews and deleted scenes.

Another film festival for ‘Stone of Destiny’

No word if Kate will be making an appearance.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Charles Martin Smith will be in Vernon Friday along with the screening of his latest film, Stone of Destiny, at the Towne Theatre Friday.

Stone of Destiny, which was featured at the closing night gala at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, recounts the story of Ian Hamilton, a proud Scottish nationalist who secured a prominent place in his country’s history books by bringing the Stone of Destiny back home in the ‘50s.

Also known as the Stone of Scone, the Stone of Destiny had been used during the crowning of Scottish kings for more than a millennium.

Smith worked with an impressive cast on the film, including Charlie Cox (Casanova, Stardust) as Hamilton, as well as Kate Mara (Brokeback Mountain), Billy Boyd (The Lord of the Rings), Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty) and Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot).

Stone of Destiny screens Friday at 6:30 p.m. The film festival continues with screenings daily at the Towne Theatre until March 12.
